What’s the difference between Type A and Type B magnetic tapes – and when might I use steel tape?
Type A and type B magnetic tapes have opposing polarities and are designed to work together, in precise alignment and (unlike A to A or B to B) without repelling each other. So if you are wishing to use magnetic tape on two objects or 2 surfaces to attach one to the other you will need to apply type A to one surface and type B to the other.
If you are wanting to use magnetic tape to attach an object to a receptive surface, such as steel, then it doesn’t matter which tape you use – A or B will be equally effective.
To identify one from the other type B has a line or groove running down the centre whereas type A is completely smooth.
Most Pop-Up Displays are manufactured using type B magnetic tape on the hardware, including our Curved Pop-Up. So graphic panels for mounting to these displays need to use type A magnetic tape.
Steel tape can be used with either type A or type B magnetic tape and allows you turn any surface into one that is receptive to magnetic tape. It is an alternative to using type A and type B magnetic tapes. It is thinner, it is white instead of brown, it is slightly more expensive. Because of a tendency to rust over time we would not recommend steel tape for outdoor applications
